 
What a great performance by Asterix and his friends when it comes to Olympics medals! This summer saw one release after another relating to Asterix at the Olympic Games as the original publication celebrated its 40th anniversary in style.Firstly, fans will appreciate its first publication in The Asterix Grand Collection, with a new cover drawn by Albert Uderzo in 2008 featuring Julius Caesar looking a little grumpy due to Asterix's great success. Film fans, for their part, can relive the film Asterix at the Olympic Games thanks to the DVD which came out in late August in a collector's edition, chock full of bonuses and other behind-the-scenes extras. 
Olympian achievements like these are a good opportunity for Tapidesourix to present the new pages on www.asterix.com dedicated to Asterix translations in Greek, Cretan Greek, Pontic Greek and Cypriot Greek. The 2008 Tournament of Indomitables is nearly upon us! Here we are at the semi-final stages, which this year have the feel of a "Masters" tournament with the following big names in the final four: Obelix, facing his loyal friend Dogmatix, and Getafix who has been paired off against Asterix; two encounters which, for all their friendly appearances, promise to be stiff tests for all competitors.Get voting now! The Asterix Quiz hasn't entered into hibernation: we can finally reveal to you the names of the June and July winners: Laurent Lesaux, Thierry Berthelet, Jean-Pierre Boettner, Hélène Serrecourt and Alexandra Moiraud are the lucky winners of a pair of Asterix puzzles while Serge Crettenand, Myriam Duc, Gaelle Giammattei, Anne Mourgue and Christophe Marechal each carry away a copy of the Asterix at the Olympic Games video game for the Playstation 2.

While stock exchanges throughout the Roman Empire have been going through some difficult times recently and Julius Caesar, advised by his loyal economics expert Caius Preposterus, has been striving to solve the crisis, one exchange still boasts strong growth, and its rude health is clear for all to see: the Asterix Translation Exchange!The Translation Exchange, a true pantheon of international Asterix album translations, has seen its stock rise by several hundreds of titles over the summer. Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese and Galician translations, recent albums as well as old classics: the Gaulish virtual Babel continues to expand and has already shot past the thousand album mark. Among the hundreds of additions to the Asterix Translation Exchange, one publication has particularly caught the eye: Astérix la kaz Razade (Asterix and the Magic Carpet), the very first release of an Asterix album in Réunion Creole.Réunion Creole, now officially declared the 107th language spoken by the most famous of all Gauls, follows hot on the heels of the translation of Asterix and the Great Divide into Antillean Creole, which has since become a smash bestseller on those islands and overseas. But what's going on in the Asterix Village? Asterix and Obelix's missive has been notable for its absence, and you could even be forgiven for believing that the days were just passing by peacefully in the little Village that we know so well, without anything important happening… Is it because the Gauls decided unilaterally to take longer holidays than usual? No, not at all! In fact, the first news of important events is already creating a hubbub in the Village huts….Everything began a few months ago when the great master Albert Uderzo decided to bring together his indomitable team. What was going on? Puzzled glances, betraying impatience as well as intrigue, were exchanged among the learned gathering of druids brought together by the Maestro. They all knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that Albert Uderzo had something big in mind, which would soon be news for the millions of Asterix fans across the world… Thus it was in this solemn atmosphere that an overjoyed Albert Uderzo quipped "I've got an idea!" before quickly rattling off an impressive series of inventions, leaving the first Gaulish witnesses of his Asterix projects dazed with excitement. One thing was now clear: the coming months would mean lots of work for everyone in the village if Asterix was to make an indelible impression on the year 2009 AD!  And this is why, having been working flat out on the preparations for this great celebration, we're a little bit behind in delivering you the new Asterix and Obelix missive. Which isn't to say, incidentally, that nothing has been going on in the virtual village at www.asterix.com: proof of which comes with this new missive, a wonderful roundup of all the key events of these last few weeks! |
