Special mini-site for the Asterix Grand Collection

The Grand Collection - The official asterix.com website

With the publication of more than a dozen albums in little over a year, the Asterix Grand Collection has become a permanent feature on shelves of avid readers of the most famous of all Gauls.
It was high time that the official Asterix.com site offered a couple of pages devoted to this collection, which lets the best of Gaulish history make the most of XXIst century printing and publication techniques.
So here is the special Asterix Grand Collection mini-site, where you will discover, in word and image, the different steps involved in restoring the Asterix albums (new inking, new lettering, new colours, etc.). You can also compare the plates before and after restoration, cast an expert collector’s eye on the brand new eight-page contained within each album, and discover all the titles which have already been published. Enjoy!

Games and contests - The official asterix.com website - The Grand Collection

Asterix and son and Asterix and the Magic Carpet in their French original Grand Collection edition are the books won by the lucky winners of our Asterix Quiz November session.
Their names? Diana MENEGATTI, Myriam LARABI, Richard GROUSSET, Nabil SBAI and Tom FELT. The latter gets special congratulations from our druidic jury as he’s one of the very few winners coming from the United States, also known by our Gauls as the country of the gobblers. Now who could deny that Asterix’s journey the New World, depicted in the album Asterix and the Great Crossing, has been a memorable one for our friends living on the other side of the Atlantic?
The December session of our Asterix Quiz now offers you a chance to win two more Asterix Grand Collection books: Asterix and the Banquet and Asterix and Cleopatra. Good luck!

Asterix speaks Portuguese to conquer the New World

The Translation Exchange - Edition - The official asterix.com website

Our series of new translations of Asterix albums into Portuguese continues, this time with the publication of A grande travessia, aka Asterix and the Great Crossing.
In a few weeks’ time, a whole part of the Asterix collection will be presented with new translations into Portuguese (see our articles Asterix in Portuguese: 5 new translations and A new Asterix the Legionary translation in Portuguese).
This time around it’s the turn of Asterix and the Great Crossing, now known as A grande travessia, to see the light of day in Portuguese. It’s a logical outcome for an album in which Asterix beats Christopher Colombus, that famous adopted Portuguese, and discovers the New World after a memorable maritime odyssey. The gobblers will be delighted!
All fans of René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo’s work should note that the adventures de Jehan Pistolet are also published in Portugal, and the second book, João Pistolão Corsário de el-rei, has just been released in Lusitania. An aspiring pirate, who predates Oumpah-Pah and Asterix among the talented duo’s creations, Jehan Pistolet is a comic strip which merits being (re-)discovered!
