Asterix and the Vikings now in a prestigious box!

Collectors

After the success of the DVD of the film Asterix and the Vikings as Doubleclix dutifully reported in a recent article, here comes the French special edition!

On the bill: the DVD itself of course, along with the exclusive booklet Le Code Goudurix (The Justforkix Code), two figurines (Asterix and Obelix in a Viking make-over) and the Asterix and Obelix XXL video game to boot, everything carefully presented in a magnificent box in the colours of the film.

The resin figurines are simply fantastic! It goes without saying that Asteraf and Obelaf, the two Gauls disguised as northern warriors to save Justforkix from his captors, have quickly taken their place in the collection of Asterix figurines that Tapisdesourix and I religiously keep on our office bookshelves.
Thanks to these little wonders, the Informatix hut in the virtual village has begun to look like a little Gaulish museum.
As for the Romans, dumbstruck with admiration for such a box set, they are cursing at having to wait until next year to see the film when it comes out in Italy!

Asterix: Latinmania

Collectors

Pegleg, the learned pirate and expert in Latin quotations, is offering a diary for the year AD 2007.
Back from his frequent shipwrecks, Redbeard’s jellyfish-covered associate has come up with a hardback tome that will make Asterix fans swoon.
Since his 2007 diary was launched, shops in French-speaking countries have simply been swept with cheerful Latinmania. When you buy two books from the Asterix collection in participating bookshops, you get a superb diary free from Hachette and Les Editions Albert René (as long as supplies last).
Each week features an illustration taken from the Asterix stories along with a Latin quotation. “Quis quid, ubi, quibus auxiliis, cur, quomodo, quando?” all the answers are in Pegleg’s diary. One last bit of advice from our wooden-legged pirate for a happy year 2007: “Carpe diem” of course!

A new Asterix album in Meefranggish

Edition

While building a wall of Asterix albums in over one hundred languages during the preparation of The Mirror World of Asterix exhibition last year, we had to field questions that drew upon all the wisdom of our druids: is Meefranggish a language or a dialect? In what country is Meefrangish spoken?
A few headaches later, we are happy to inform you of the results of our painstaking research: Meefranggish is a dialect spoken in Germany and is, in fact, the subject of a new translation for the Mundart collection: Asterix and the Big Fight, renamed here Då boxe di Beudel, just published recently by our German cousins.
Bravura is in heaven as she can now offer 61 Mundart titles in her Gaulish library!

October Asterix Quiz: the results

Games and contests

Oui, ja, si, jawohl, yes! This time, the joyous clamour from our happy winners comes in many languages!
And they have good reason to cheer: each winner makes off with a set of five albums in the five languages of the official Asterix site ! It’s a sort of Gaulish Famous Five, you might say.
With a dramatic drum roll, Postaldistrix reaches into his bag and pulls out a special delivery marble tablet.
With bated breath, we carefully unwrap it to announce the happy winners: Hervé Soulard, Anthony Renou, Pierre Rouvres, Véro Santi and David Croizet.
And for all you others, our November Asterix Quiz will give you a chance to win DVDs of the film Asterix and the Vikings!

Asterix makes an appearance in Montreuil

Press review

Continuing his ‘Tour de Gaul’ of book fairs, Asterix and his mobile hut call at Montreuil.
Our ravishing Gaulish women, experts in the rare books and figurines of the collection, are waiting for you from 22 to 27 November at the “Salon du Livre et de la Presse Jeunesse” at the Montreuil Exhibition Centre, very close to Lutetia (Paris).
Asterix already feels right at home in Montreuil. So much so, in fact, that our learned druids, emboldened by the success of their work on the mysterious Jusforkix Code, which allowed us to know more about the making of Asterix and the Vikings, looked into the relationship between our hero and this town near Paris!
They came up with an amazing discovery: Surprisingly enough, the name ‘Montreuil’ comes from the Latin ‘Monasteriolum’. Might they have laid hands on a new secret code? A ‘Mon Asterix’ (My Asterix) disguised in order to avoid raising suspicions? Might Montreuil be an authentic Gaulish city cultivating the utopia of the Village of Asterix? Worth keeping an eye on… Meanwhile, we hope you enjoy the fair with Asterix!

Asterix and Obelix: Mission Wifix

Video games

Dear old Julius will never live it down: after the triumph of the DVD of the film Asterix and the Vikings, the Gauls are now attacking Roman legions in pixel format: Asterix and Obelix: Mission Wifix has just been released for PSP and Nintendo DS.
Caesar is supposedly preparing his counter attack, and the rumours are of giant centurions and clones of the emperor.
But Obelix has thought of everything: thanks to the new Wifi multiplayer mode, indomitable friends from the world over, Iberians, Britons, Belgians and Helvetians will be able to join together to give the Romans a pasting at chariot races and arena team battle.
Further proof that Asterix’s village has gone global! See our special sheet for more information.
