August Asterix Quiz: And the winners are…

Games and contests

The winners of our Asterix Quiz for the month of August have been announced!
Helena Cailleaux, Isabelle Pouliquen, Myriam Bensedid, Karine Sautelet and Simon Maricau each receive a deluxe edition of the album Asterix and the Falling Sky, no less!

A large-format album with the complete story in two versions (colour and sketched), this is a real reason for me to rant about the rules that stop myself and Tapisdesourix from taking part in asterix.com competitions!
We wish you the best of luck for the September session, where this time there’s an Asterix schoolbag to be won.

The Asterix world jigsaw

Collectors

We already knew that the Asterix family photo jigsaw drove people wild (see our post of 18th August 2006).

Now it’s making heads spin! Already mythical in its classic 1000-piece version, the jigsaw that brings together all the characters from the adventures of Asterix (a real brain-teaser!) has made a comeback as a 540-piece Puzzle Ball!
I've been taking turns here day and night with Tapisdesourix to get to the end of this wonderful puzzle. I have to say, the end result is worth it: a truly original atlas mapping the wonderful universe created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. By Toutatis, it's well-earned!

The English version of the book of the film Asterix and the Vikings

Edition

Big news for our British friends - the Asterix collection in English has been enhanced with a new title. The book of the film Asterix and the Vikings, already on shop shelves in continental Europe for several months, is now available in English bookshops as well as in those in India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, where English-language translations are hogging top spot in book sales.

Meanwhile, the softcover version of Asterix and the Falling Sky has also appeared, confirming the success of the 33rd album which came out almost a year ago. Nothing like a nice cup of hot water to celebrate!

Mission Cleopatra on Indian screens

Cinema

While Asterix at the Olympic Games is being shot in Alicante, in Spain, Mission Cleopatra hits cinemas across India.

The film is to be released in three different languages: Hindi, Tamil and English. Enthusiastic, Indian newspapers detail incredible figures of what is definitely an ambitious production: 1,500 doves, 41 horses, 19 cats, 17 frogs, 12 boars, 3 crocodiles and 1 donkey!

Iberians toast Obelix

Press review

The Spanish movie entitled El Crimen Ferpecto was mentioned in a news brief a few months ago in Doublclix’ Missive because it makes a direct reference to the album Asterix and the Laurel Wreath, where the famous exclamation of “Zigackly!” (“Farpaitement” in French and “Ferpectamente” in the Castilian translation), blurted out by Obelix in a moment of excitement, made a lasting impression on everyone

Thanks to the newspaper El Pais, we have been apprised that Ferpectamente is also the title of a cult album released twenty years ago by the rock group Los Enemigos, which is now reuniting temporarily in order to give a few concerts.
Makes you wonder what it was that appealed to our Iberian friends so much in this immoderate Obelix. That festive Gaulish spirit, no doubt!

Great new stuff from Pixi!

Collectors

Pixi has announced its September 2006 collection of metal Asterix figurines, and there will be plenty to gawk at: Timandahaf, Pepe and Gluteus Maximus are some of the celebrities in this new series, which you can see on the Pixi page in the licensing directory on asterix.com, to be found in Mrs. Geriatrix’ hut.

Special kudos for the most original new item: the three Roman Amphora (we would call them “sandwich-men” today) who contributed an unforgettable advertising sequence in the Circus Maximus in Asterix the Gladiator.
For the purists among you, the one in the middle is available in two colours, white or blue, in order to conform to the different versions that have appeared in albums since 1964.
